Ruby's 92nd Birthday

Today we went to Council on Aging with a group consisting of Lauren Baucum, Sudeep Maiti, Lindsey Peterson, Gaby Martinez, James Parman, and special guest Juan O’Neal. When we got there, we had a birthday celebration with Ruby, who had just turned 92. It was the perfect day for us to come because we were able to serenade her with Happy Birthday whilst wearing birthday hats! Our performance with the theme of Patriotic Songs consisted of God Bless America, the Navy theme song, and other uplifting pieces including some Schumann pieces, Eidelweiss from The Sound of Music and two beloved Beatles songs. All of the songs were thoroughly enjoyed by the performers and the audience, and even included singing along and dancing! After the performance, I went through a period of reflection, realizing how powerful music was to bring the memory of lyrics back to those with Alzheimer’s and to just unite people from a variety of backgrounds together in one place of joy and love.
